Connected Equipment

Extending the benefits of smart homes and buildings

Connected Equipment

Connected homes are rising in popularity, with most home improvement stores now having dedicated "connected home" sections. Consumers are realizing the benefits of connectivity and control, as are commercial building owners and managers. But the benefits can and should reach further than the consumer.

At PNNL, we're advancing the impact of connectivity by unifying industry on clear and consistent definitions and characteristics for connected equipment services. By mapping equipment characteristics to services, we're enabling understanding towards the value and benefit of connected equipment.

Our researchers are also developing a model, the Connected Equipment Maturity Model, that provides a national view of maturity in the marketplace. Through voluntary industry participation and self-evaluation, trends and gaps will be revealed. The model also enables industry to perform comparisons, and more importantly, it informs a development roadmap, so that investments can be prioritized.
